The largest single excursion that has yet left Denver the present season was that to Palmer Lake yesterday. It was a union basket picnic of the Congregational and Presbyterian Sunday-schools of this city, and it was an unusually pleasant affair.

Arrangements had been made with the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe to convey the party to the lake, the fare being 75 cents for adults and 35 cents for children for the round trip. The first train of four coaches left at 8 o’clock on a Colorado Midland train, and this was followed fifteen and thirty minutes later, respectively, by sixteen coach-loads of old and young in two trains over the Santa Fe.

The first train reached the grounds a little after 10 o’clock, and the last one at 11:30, when the crowd, numbering fully 2,000 people, proceeded to enjoy themselves to the fullest extent. The mountains were climbed by the little ones in search of flowers, while the older members of the party spent the time in the park and in rowing on the lake. Not an accident of any kind occurred, and when the party returned to the city at 7:10 p.m., one and all voted the day’s festivities the most pleasant within their recollection. The Sunday-schools interested will receive quite a snug sum from the excursion, as the railway company pays them 25 cents for every adult ticket sold and 10 cents each for the children’s tickets.
