The Long Expedition

October 21, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Just over 200 years ago, Major Stephen Long’s U.S. expedition came through the Palmer Divide area. Long and nineteen other men traveled by boat, horseback, and foot from 1819-1820 to explore the Platte River and its sources. The team included soldiers, artists, and botanists and they were among the first Europeans in the area. They named Castle Rock and “discovered” the columbine flower. Presented John Stansfield.
