William Finley Thompson, Founder of the Town of Palmer Lake and the Builder of Estemere was an ambitious, enterprising young man. He began a career as a dentist in 1857 or so but dreamed of a better life for his family and himself.

His vision exceeded his grasp; however, his intentions were honorable.

Estemere is a historic landmark built in 1887 by Palmer Lake founder and first mayor Dr. William Finley Thompson. Dr. Thompson was one of Colorado’s earliest commuters, traveling daily from his beautiful home in Palmer Lake to his dental practice in Denver on the D&RG railroad. Dr. Thompson fled bankruptcy around 1900 and this small booklet traces, in narrative and photographs, the history of this home for over a hundred years to its present owners.
