Husted

Husted was six miles south of Monument and was named after Calvin Husted. He was homesteading in the area and had sawmills in 1867 and 1868. It was an important stop for the Santa Fe and Rio Grande railroads. It was a small village that had stores, a saloon, church school, post office and restaurant. As automobiles became popular there were some filling stations along the highway. Husted was on land that was to become the Air Force Academy. Some of the homes were moved into the Monument and Palmer Lake area.
